An environmental portrait is one that is taken in an environment that helps describe the person being photographed. For example, a librarian photographed in a library be an environmental portrait. These types of portraits help show the personality and interests of the person without them even speaking. I find environmental portraits to be one of my favorite types of photography. 

These were recently taken of Kelley, who has been working as a consultant from home. She left the full-time working world to be at home with her kids a few years ago and needed to elevate her digital brand. We decided that her home would be a great backdrop for her portrait session. I used a combination of window and strobe lights to create natural looking photographs.  

Note: All Covid-19 safety protocols were followed, such as mask wearing, washing of hands, and keeping a physical distance. I also chose not to use an assistant to keep the number of people in her apartment at the lowest number possible.
